Mayor Sylvester Turner issued a mandatory evacuation for residents who live along Buffalo Bayou. By now, they should be gone since Sunday, when nearby reservoirs began a gradual reduction by the Army Corps of Engineers.
The mayor said water released from the Addicks and Barker reservoirs in west Harris County will continue over the next 9-15 days. He adds that his first concern is the personal safety for the first responders whose personal safety is already at risk.
Anyone living around Highway 6 and Interstate 10 may actually see some relief from the high water. Those south of I-10 too where the aim is downstream. Areas west of Gessner have been evacuated though some people have remained.
Houston Police assure they will continue to patrol the area to keep homes safe. They mayor says residents can still be shuttled to shelters at any time.
