Harvey Death Tolls Reaches 50 Or More

A veteran of the Houston Police Department and a family of six are among lives lost due to Tropical Storm Harvey according to local officials.

The officer was reporting to work during the storm when he drove into 14 feet of water. The family was swept away by floodwaters in their van near Greens Bayou on Sunday. Only the driver survived after being rescued, officials say.

Many people are still missing and bodies are expected to be recovered once floodwaters recede back into their banks. Locally, the Harris County Medical Examiner has confirmed 28 storm deaths, all but one caused by drowning.

In Galveston County, the death toll due to Harvey is currently between 6 and 7, including two from Dickenson and one from League City. Other counties adding to the death toll include Jasper, Jefferson, Aransas, Montgomery, and Orange Counties.
