Lake Forest residents urged to boil water

The Lake Forest Utility District has notified customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption. The district says the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the announcement due to low pressure in the distribution system caused by flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, officials say water for drinking by humans and pets, cooking, brushing teeth, rinsing contact lenses, shaving and making ice should reach a rolling boil for two minutes and cooled prior to use. Unscented liquid chlorine bleach may also be used to disinfect water. If the water is clear, add 2 drops of bleach per quart of water (8 drops per gallon). If the water is cloudy, add 4 drops of bleach. Mix well and let stand 30 minutes before using.

Water should continue to be disinfected until notification is given that the water is safe.
