Jeff Lindner with the Harris County Flood Control District, held a press conference Sunday night to discuss controlled releases of water from the Addicks and Barker reservoirs. The releases are necessary to avoid failures of the rapidly rising reservoirs. Just after midnight, official began the release of Addicks and Barker reservoirs.
There has also been a voluntary evacuation issued for residents that may be affected by the release. Residents however are urged to stay off the roads at night and not to evacuate until the morning.
"This is the first time ever that while Buffalo Bayou is flooding and the rain is falling that they might have to make releases from these reservoirs are flowing," Lindner said.
