San Luis Pass is being closed to swimmers and boaters after a string of drownings over the past month.
Access to the popular fishing sport ends Thursday, Aug. 16. After that, the pass will be closed "for any activity, including bathing, fishing and/or swimming," according to the Brazoria County Commissioner's Court.
Three drowning prompted the ban:
--August: A man and his son-in-law drowned in the pass's rip current.
--July: A Houston man drowned during a family kayaking trip just outside the pass.
--July: A 19-year-old drowned while fishing after he and a firned were pulled under by the rip current.
The upcoming ban was announced Tuesday.
