Former Democratic Texas Governor Mark White is dead. The 77-year-old White passed away Saturday in Houston after a long battle with kidney cancer. White served as governor from 1983 to 1987.

Services will be at Second Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev Ed Young.On Thursday morning, DPS troopers will escort the casket to the state Capitol rotunda, where the body I'll lie in state from noon until 3 pm. Interment will be at the Texas State. Cemetery at 4 pm.
He's best remembered for pushing public education reform, including the "No Pass, No Play" policy for student athletes.
