Texas Campus Carry Expands to Community Colleges

The state's "campus carry" law will be expanded today to include all community colleges in Texas.

People with a handgun license will be allowed to carry a concealed firearm on campus, with some restrictions such as science labs, performance halls or child-care centers.

Lone Star College hosted nearly a dozen forums before drafting final rules for where licensed handguns are allowed and prohibited.

Houston Community College and San Jacinto College also will post 30.06 signs in certain buildings.

The University of Houston so far reports no incidents since SB 11 went into effect on four-year campuses a year ago.

Private colleges were allowed to opt out under the law and nearly all did.
