Police in San Antonio found eight people dead and dozens of other injured in the trailer of an 18-wheeler that stopped in a Wal Mart parking lot off Interstate 35 and Poteet Jourdanton highway.
Investigators say 38 people were found in the truck. At least 20 are in critical condition after being taken to the hospital. Eight others are being treated for less serious injuries.
Police were called to perform a welfare check after an employee said he was approached by someone from the truck who was looking for water.
The trucker is in custody, facing human trafficking charges.
