Plans for renegotiating NAFTA are being made public by the Trump administration. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer has released an 18 page document for Congress with a specific set of goals for the deal between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It calls for more U.S. exports for dairy products, wine and grains. It also looks to expand trade in telecommunications and establish new rules on currency manipulation. The U.S. would also like to see more access for banks abroad.
It does not include any mention of the auto industry, which got a big boost from the deal when it went into effect in the 1990s. NAFTA talks are expected to begin next month.
