“Earlymoons” for Happy Couples

There’s a new tradition to add to the list of wedding must-do’s.

The “earlymoon.”  It’s an intimate getaway for the happy couple – before the nuptials.  Actually before the invitations go out but after the hard choices have been made, recommends Houston wedding planner Laurette Veres, who produces the upcoming Bridal Extravaganza Show in Houston (July 22-23).  “It’s basically a small trip, perhaps just 2 or 3 days, about three weeks before your wedding,” she suggests, stressing that having all the details decided prior to the getaway will significantly increase the enjoyment.  “Don’t go on your earlymoon when you haven’t chosen your dates, or where your location will be, because that stress will be weighing on you.”  And the whole point of an earlymoon is to escape the stress.

Pippa Middleton, sister of the future Queen of England and a celebrity today who is famous for being famous, went with her betrothed to the toney island of St. Barths before walking down the aisle in a globally broadcast wedding.  “And the purpose is to unplug, reconnect, and get away from all the stress of the planning,” Veres details.

It wasn’t that long ago mothers were counseling daughters to abstain from sex prior to marriage.  Apparently now mom’s perspective has evolved, perhaps recalling the stress of her own wedding.  But wasn’t the point of the honeymoon to flee the stress of the wedding?
