We all know the mainstream media leans left. We have seen how objectivity has been thrown out the window. But now we have left leaning journalism professors complaining about it.
One of them, Camille Paglia at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, told KTRH's Sean Hannity the liberal left has destroyed journalism.
“It’s obscene,” Paglia said. “It’s outrageous, OK? It shows that the Democrats are nothing now but words and fantasy and hallucination and Hollywood. There’s no journalism left. What’s happened to The New York Times? What’s happened to the major networks? It’s an outrage.”
She also told Hannity the damage that has been done to the profession will take a long time to fix.
“I’m a professor of media studies, in addition to a professor of humanities, OK?” Paglia continued. “And I think it’s absolutely grotesque the way my party has destroyed journalism. Right now, it is going to take decades to recover from this atrocity that’s going on where the news media have turned themselves over to the most childish fraternity, kind of buffoonish behavior.”
So, is she right? There are media professors who disagree. Joe Cutbirth teaches at the University of Houston, and says you can ask questions, but overall the critics, he says, need to get with the times.
“There are some serious questions to be asked about the role of journalism in this country,” Cutbirth explained. “Journalism is changing. So is our politics. Her criticisms are over the top and really unwarranted.”
Cutbirth also says this is not the first time Paglia has said this, and her rhetoric is becoming tired.
“She’s made a career out of anger and using anger as her chief tool to calling attention to things. I think that’s unfortunate,” Cutbirth stated.
