Authorities issued a voluntary evacuation Tuesday for the Bolivar Peninsula and the unincorporated communities of Port Bolivar, Crystal Beach, High Island and Gilchrist.
The recommendation comes as Tropical Storm Cindy, churning in the gulf, prepares to head ashore late Wednesday or early Thursday.
Bolivar is home to coast-hugging SR 87 and SR 124, notorious for flooding. If water goes over the road, the west-end ferry is the only way in and out of the peninsula -- and the ferry is subject to close in severe weather.
