In Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner says the Bayou City remains committed to addressing issues of climate change and has joined dozens of other mayors in signing a statement stating a commitment to “build and strengthen relationships around the world to protect the planet from devastating climate risks.”
On Thursday President Donald Trump announced that the United States is pulling out of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, triggering a series of outcries from world leaders including China, Germany and the U.K.
Houston has pledged to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 relative to 2007 numbers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finds Texas is the largest producer of carbon dioxide emissions in the country.
