Digital billboards around the Houston area are serving as a reminder to get prepared, have a plan, while the hurricane season approaches.
Clear Channel Outdoor V.P. of Public Affairs Lee Vela says the eight billboards will carry specific warning messages when necessary.
“There would be different messages from different parts of the area,” Vela explains. “So, one area may be 'shelter in place,' and the other area may be 'evacuation.' It just depends on the area where the billboard is located.”
The boards are located in Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria and Galveston counties. They show a second-by-second countdown to the start of the hurricane season, June 1st.
“The homeland security offices in those four counties -- Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria and Galveston counties,” he says, “will make the determination of what is put up on the signs at what time.”
Right now, those boards feature a countdown clock to the start of Hurricane season.
