POLL: Lonely at 35? Probably Not

Everybody is afraid to reach out. We fear rejection, or even derision. On the other hand, a study which finds their mid-30s is a time of peak loneliness for men lacks substance.

Houston Psychologist Dr. Laurence Abrams says there are lonely periods at all ages, but some of it may be our fault.

“You're afraid of rejection. You're afraid of looking silly,” Dr. Abrams says. “We put on our best clothes, trying to make us more appealing, but we certainly walk around fighting off loneliness. “

Abrams says we can certainly be lonely at any age, but he challenges these results.

“They're hardly lonely at that age, so I would disagree that (it) is very likely the most lonely time of their lives.”

He simply doesn't buy the theory.
