Are cops ‘de-policing?

A new, unclassified report from the FBI shows police are not acting as proactively as they used to.

The new report finds law enforcement is ‘de-policing’ due to concerns over movements like 'Black Lives Matter.' HPD Chief Art Acevedo tells KTRH you can bet your last dollar his cops aren't doing this, but the report raised his eyebrows.

“We need to monitor that. But here in Houston I can tell you that I’ve never seen a harder working group of cops. I’m not worried about it,” Acevedo explained.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls agrees with Acevedo, but says if de-policing is going on, you blame the mainstream media, which has inspired lone wolves to act against cops.

“No question about it. The media has fueled a lot of this, whether it goes back to the Freddie Gray case, the Michael Brown case or others,” Nehls stated.

The FBI report looked at 50 incidents last year in which officers were killed in the line of duty. Twenty-eight percent of them were motivated by hatred of police.
