Now that the House has passed a replacement bill for Obamacare, how do Houstonians feel about it? It turns out some feel good, and some still have questions.
Houston political analyst Jacquie Baly says the bill might not be what every Republican wanted, but you have to give in order to get. And that’s what President Trump did to make this deal.
“When you have to deal with people in Washington and legislative issues, you do have to compromise,” Baly stated.
So, should you be happy with this bill? Houston healthcare lawyer Jennifer Perry says we just don't know yet.
“There’s still a lot up in the air. It’ll boil down to the Senate and how they change the bill,” Perry said.
Doctors like James Pinckney with Diamond Physicians say on its face this may be better than Obamacare.
“Only time will tell, but I think it’s a step in the right direction,” Pinckney said.
As we mentioned earlier President Trump compromised with conservative and moderate Republicans in order to get this deal done. So what does this mean for issues like tax reform and the wall? Baly says we could see more compromise.
“Maybe with tax reform, but he’s been pretty strong on his stance with the wall. His base will definitely hold him to that,” Baly explained, adding that it will be hard for Trump to compromise on the issue that launched him from being an afterthought in the campaign to becoming President.
