Click It or Ticket Campaign Returns

Texas recorded a 9% jump in traffic fatalities among people not wearing their seatbelts last year. That's why, 15 years after the “Click It or Ticket” campaign first started, there is new commitment to getting people to buckle up.

Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Deidrea George says law enforcement officers are serious about this.

“They are definitely going to enforce this,” George says, “making sure that drivers as well as passengers are buckled up.”

The campaign has had an impact since it started in 2002. Ninety-two percent of Texans wear their seatbelts now, compared to 76 percent 15 years ago.
