Travelers Rate IAH Among Top Airports for ... Food

Bush Airport recognized as a top choice for airport dining in U.S.

When it comes to finding something good to eat — and something healthy to eat, as well — George Bush Intercontinental Airport is one of the top airports in the United States, according to a top travel industry website. ranked Bush Airport No. 5 overall in its 2017 Airport Dining Scorecard. It also ranked IAH tops among the top 20 most trafficked airports for vegetarian and vegan dining options.

The top 20 most trafficked airports in the United Stated were determined using 2015 North American Passenger data from the Airports Council International. determined the final overall rankings by scoring satisfaction, price and quality.

Satisfaction rankings were determined by measuring the average Yelp score per venue and the average Yelp score per reviewer at each airport. Price scores were calculated using Yelp pricing data. Quality was evaluated using a cumulative average of data from Zagat reviews, PCRM healthiness ratings and JD Power rankings.

Bush Airport received 3.5 stars (out of 5) overall, including a customer satisfaction rating of 4 stars. The website noted: “Home to a number of highly rated eateries, the Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport is a seafood lover’s dream. Pappadeaux and Landry’s are just a few of the locations a traveler can stop to get some quality sea fare.”

In the categories judged, Bush Airport was ranked as the best airport in the U.S. for vegetarian and vegan options. The website noted: “Situated in a meat-loving state, it may be surprising that Houston’s Bush Airport is such a haven for vegetarian eaters. All but a few of the nearly 90 restaurants in the airport have multiple vegetarian entrée options.”

Bush Airport was the highest-ranked airport in Texas, landing just above DFW International, which came in sixth.

The rankings come as both Bush Airport and William P. Hobby Airport complete an upgrade of overall concessions choices at both airports. The execution of the $1.6 billion project brings new concepts to the airports, with food and beverage vendors like Landry’s Seafood, Starbucks, Hard Rock Café, Chick-fil-A and Wendy’s, as well as upscale product choices from Brookstone, Brooks Brothers, Spanx, MAC, Hugo Boss, XpresSpa, Tumi, and M. Fredric.

Also, a number of local concepts are now a part of the expanded options for visitors to the Houston airports. Among those are Hugo’s Concina, The Breakfast Klub, Hubcap Grill, Pinks Pizza, Ray’s BBQ Shack, Café Adobe, Space Corner, Univision, Spirit of Red Horse and Pinto Ranch.
