Rain Expected to Continue Until Sunset

Today's rain may persist until sunset, says the National Weather Service, but forecasts indicate that the most dangerous storms have passed through the county.

Rainfall totals averaged less than an inch across most of the area during the initial storms, though there have been locally heavy downpours of several inches.

The weather service anticipates a 20 percent chance of rain Tuesday, then sunny skies through Friday.

"Aside from a slight increase in automobile accidents, impacts this morning were minimal," says the Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management. Nevertheless, "driving in wet weather is always challenging and Harris County drivers should be aware of the dangers involved."

The HCOHSEM has returned to normal readiness status.
