American economic freedom takes hit

Our country’s economic freedom has hit an historic low even though we have supposedly been in recovery from the Great Recession since 2009.

James Roberts was part of the team at the Heritage Foundation that crunched the numbers. We rank just 17th out of 180 rated economies around the world. Roberts told KTRH this did not happen overnight.

“This has been a long time in coming throughout the eight years of the Obama Administration and really going back even further into the Bush 43 Administration,” Roberts explained.

And what's the biggest culprit? As you might have guessed, it's Obamacare, which has not been the Affordable Care Act it was cracked up to be.

“That’s been a really significant negative. It’s increased uncertainty in the business community. It has increased costs for Americans trying to get health insurance,” Roberts said.

At the moment, Roberts says our economic freedom lags behind countries like Switzerland, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.
