One person is confirmed dead and a fellow passenger and the pilot remain hospitalized after a Republic Helicopters chopper crashed into West Galveston Bay on Monday night.
The two survivors are being treated at UTMB at Galveston.
The crash took place about a mile offshore. Republic Helicopters, the Santa Fe-based firm that owns the chopper, calls the fatal incident an "unscheduled landing.”
Its helicopter was flying in from a cargo ship.
The company released a statement, saying in part that, "at approximately 7:15 there was an incident involving a Republic Helicopter. The aircraft made a landing in the water in West Galveston Bay."
The company flies cargo ship crew on- and off-shore. It also carries cargo.
Republic says it's cooperating with NTSB and FAA investigators.
