Texas Father Acts As Human Shield After Bull Rider Son Is Knocked Out

Incredible video.

At a rodeo in the Central Texas town of Belton, 18-year-old bull rider Cody Hooks was bucked off the bull with his head hitting the horn, knocking him out on the ground unconscious.

That's when his father jumped in to shield his son from the bull.

The father even took a hit to protect his son.

Hooks posted the video on Instagram, writing “not one to post falling off, but big thanks to my dad @hooks.landis and the bullfighters last night in Belton, Tx could’ve been a hella lot worse. #blessed.”

Hooks tells KXXV-TV:

"The last thing I remember is taking my wrap before nodding my head and that’s about it. From what they all tell me, the bull hit his hip on the side of the bucking shoot and kind of cocked me sideways. His horn hit me right behind the ear in that little knockout spot.”

Hooks adds that this isn’t the first time he’s been saved by his dad, “...he’s done something like that as most people don’t know. He’s done it a couple of times. It's kind of funny.”

Cody and his dad will make full recoveries and as soon as the doctor clears him, he plans to get back in the shoot for another ride.
