Tragic disaster avoided but terrifying moments nonetheless as a carnival ride started swaying, nearly tipping over.
It happened at the Annual National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan.
The "Magic Carpet" pendulum ride started to sway, rocking back and forth while at nearly full occupancy.
Cell phone video shows the ride swaying back & forth, seemingly out-of-control. A number of bystanders and carnival workers can be seen in the video, attempting to hold down the base of the ride as it appears the ride came loose from its foundation.
“After seeing what was happening about a dozen people on the ground grabbed hold of the fencing around the base of the ride to try and steady it.
For several minutes after the ride came to a stop, the harnesses remained locked, according to witnesses.
When riders walked off the decking people in the crowd cheered while others hugged their loved ones.”
No one was injured and the carnival operator reportedly disassembled the ride and is investigating.
