Republicans Defy Pelosi By Ditching Their Face Masks On The House Floor

A Group of House Republican including Florida Rep. Brian Mast, Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, Texas Rep. Chip Roy, South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman and several others ditched their masks on the House floor during a voting session yesterday.

Several members were issued formal warnings for not wearing their masks.

While Rep. Mast & Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne were fined $500 for their 2nd mask offense.

One Republican staffer tells NBC News:

“Democrats have said 'trust the science' for over a year. Now they refuse to recognize new CDC guidance. Why?"

Last week, the CDC said that those who have been fully vaccinated can shed their masks.

Pelosi has insisted on keeping her mask mandate along with fines in place despite the CDC announcement last week.

Rep. Mast tells the Washington Examiner that the time has come to ditch the masks and that congress must set an example for the American people. He says:

"This is a set of our national government. What we do has implications that go beyond here.It leads to what you see going on in companies, national companies, things like that, thinking that they can force their employees to vaccinate if they don't want to or share their medical information if they don't want to, when you have the person third in line for the presidency thinking that they can fine us for not wearing a mask when we've been vaccinated. What we do here has ripples."
