Tony Dungy Backs Drew Brees: He Shouldn’t “Be Afraid To Say That”

Hall Of Fame coach Tony Dungy says that New Orleans Saints’ Quarterback Drew Brees shouldn’t “be afraid” to give his thoughts on national anthem protests.

Speaking to Pat McAfee on his show, Dungy said “we can't just say anytime something happens we don't agree with 'Hey I'm done with that and this person' that doesn't make sense".

Earlier this week, Brees said that he “will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country” because to him the flag represents his grandfathers who fought in World War 2.

Yesterday, Brees apologized.

Dungy added, “It may have been not exactly the way he wanted to express it, but he can’t be afraid to say that, and we can’t be afraid to say, ‘OK Drew, I don’t agree with you, but let’s talk about this, and let’s sit down and talk about it.’"
