Virginia Police Chief: Rioters Blocked Firefighters From Responding To Fire

Richmond Police Chief Will Smith got emotional when discussing an incident that happened on Saturday night.

He says that rioters set fire to a few buildings, including a multi-family residence that was occupied by a child.

He repeatedly had to stop to compose himself as he detailed how some goons blocked the fire department from responding.

He said “they prohibited us from getting on scene. We had to force our way to make a clear path for the fire department. Officers were able to help those people out of the house. We were able to get the fire department there safely.”

Fortunately, the child was safely rescued. He added that this is “unacceptable to me. It’s unacceptable to the Richmond Police Department and unacceptable to the City of Richmond.” He says he believes is was all an organized effort.

Mayor Levar Stoney also discussed the incident saying“when you block law enforcement from allowing fire services to get to a home that has caught on fire. You are not inspiring change. When you knock out windows of businesses that had nothing to do with this, you are not inspiring change. That's an insult to the cause.”
