Andrew Weissman, the lead prosecutor on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team, is hosting a virtual fundraiser next week for Joe Biden’s campaign.
Yup, the totally non-partisan Mueller team.
Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh tells Fox News:
“It’s no surprise that a guy who tried to take down the president through the sham impeachment would also help Joe Biden’s campaign. It doesn’t get any swampier than this: trying to stage a partisan coup against the president and then raising money for his political opponent.”
Weissman was a partisan hack before the Mueller probe which is why he likely ended up apart of the investigation. In 2016, he attended Hillary Clinton’s “tear-filled election night event”.
As Sean Spicer put it, “as if we didn’t already know, Andrew Weissmann’s politics are officially unmasked.”
Even mainstream media journalists admit the optics of Weissman hosting a Biden event does not look good.
Los Angeles Times White House correspondent Chris Megerian says “after all the insisting that the special counsel's investigation wasn't tainted by politics, one of the former top prosecutors is raising money for President Trump's opponent.”
While Washington Post report Dan Zak writes that Weissman raising money for Biden, “seems hugely inappropriate”.
