11-Year-Old Boy Stops Home Intruder by Hitting Him In the Head With Machete

Eleven-year-old Braydon Smith was at home alone on Friday morning when a stranger knocked on the front door of his family’s home in Mebane, North Carolina.

Braydon says the man then busted through the front door. He hid in his room, but was later found.

The intruder, Jataveon Hall, pointed a gun at Braydon and ordered him on the ground in his bedroom closet.

He says Hall went into the living room to gather electronics, then went back to question Braydon. Braydon says “he found my phone on the counter and he took the phone but he dropped it, and that’s when I picked up my machete and hit him in the back of the head.”

Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood says “not only did this youngster thwart the larceny attempt but he created blood evidence that very well may lead to a conviction in this case. This is a very tough kid who kept his wits about him. At the same time, I want to reflect that this youngster, his family and indeed this community, are very lucky this event did not have a tragic ending for the child."

Officers say Hall dropped everything and ran. Hall was later arrested and taken to the hospital where he was treated for the machete wound on his head. Hall managed to escape from the hospital but was apprehended again.
