Terrifying video: window washers in OKC stuck in swinging basket 50-stories up
The OKC Fire Department tweeted, “Dangerous situation at Devon Tower. A large basket, believed to have window washers inside, is swinging wildly out of control at the top of the tower.”
OKC Fire Department Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson says “they were on a ride that no one would want to experience, to say the least.”
The video shows the basket crashing into the tower’s roof extensions, breaking windows and sending broken glass to the sidewalks underneath. Police closed off the area to traffic.
The building, Devon Tower, is the tallest in OKC and is the headquarters for the Devon Energy Corporation.
According to fire officials, the cradle is attached to a crane. The crane is believed to have stopped working due to the high wind gusts, causing the cradle to swing loosely.
