President Trump Announces Programs To Build Military Might

President Donald Trump says the United States is starting new efforts to build up the military.

In the process, the President says there'll be a new "Golden Fleet," with a plan for two new large battleships and a dozen or more new state-of-the-art submarines.

In a Monday afternoon speech, President Trump said the US will build 25 new ships to join the more than 200 ships in its arsenal, but other efforts are underway too.

"Fifteen submarines are ready to start, we'll be building 12-to-15 more and we're at least fifteen years ahead of everyone in this, China and everyone. We have more than 30, and these are the super-duper submarines.

"We're going to assure the United States will lead the way in building up the Navy," he added, and there will be many more planes for the US Air Force.

He also noted that "We haven't built a battleship since 1994."

President Trump signed an executive order more than six months ago calling America's lack of a shipbuilding and maritime workforce a matter of national security.
