With Democrats already talking up next year's midterms, some experts are rightfully pointing out the divided Dems need to survive the primaries first.
The Democrat division will be on full display in 7 key races, including a big one here in Texas between Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and state rep. James Talarico.
"You're going to see candidates in races, and they're going to fight pretty hard to be the standard bearer because they think they can win" said longtime Texas political consultant, Bill Miller.
That's exactly why Jasmine Crockett entered the Senate race last week, prompting fellow Democrat Colin Allred to drop out, and setting up a 2-person race with the moderate, Talarico.
"Crockett, she's a congresswoman with a very high profile. She's been outspoken, controversial, and attention getting" said Miller, "I think Talarico, it's going to be a very challenging race for him to win."
The first poll since Crockett's announcement, appears to back that up, with Crockett already leading Talarico by 8 points.
"Crockett will be the nominee, she'll be a progressive Democrat at the head of the ticket" Miller told KTRH, "But it doesn't bode well for Democrats on the ballot."
It's worth noting that no Democrat has won a statewide race in Texas since 1994.
