The first of what is expected to be two rounds of storms is moving through the Houston area early Saturday morning. Another round is expected in the afternoon.
CenterPoint is reporting more than 150K customers are without power as of 5:12am.
Harris County meteorologist Jeff Lindner says, "Some severe weather (damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado) will be possible with both rounds.
Much needed rainfall of 1-3 inches with isolated totals of 4-5 inches will be possible. Some street flooding will be possible in the heavier rains. Due to dry grounds bayou and creeks flooding is currently not expected."
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate emergency response resources ahead of the threat for severe weather for a large portion of the state, beginning Thursday night and lasting through the weekend.
“Texas stands ready to deploy all emergency resources needed to help local officials respond to potential severe weather across the state,” said Governor Abbott. “State and local emergency response partners are actively monitoring weather conditions and are on standby to provide all necessary resources to protect Texans and our communities. Texans are encouraged to regularly monitor road conditions, make an emergency plan, and heed the guidance of state and local officials.”
