Congress is expected to return to work shortly following the end of the August congressional recess. With so much still going on both across the world and here in the United States, what exactly can we expect them to get up to over the next few months?
According to political analyst Vlad Davidiuk, that mystery is a lot clearer than you might think. He said, "There are so many moving pieces, but really it's just two priorities: continue the investigations to get to a sense of accountability and continue with the budget process to make sure we're delivering on the needs of the American people."
He says appropriations bills to fund specific agencies are going to have to be a top priority for Republicans, and they'll be key to implementing the GOP agenda laid out in Trump's One Big Beautiful Map.
Davidiuk explained that, "The One Big Beautiful Map kind of creates a concrete version of the agenda for President Trump and the Republican Party, but real funding power lies in appropriations." Through these appropriations bills and further implementing Trump's agenda, Davidiuk thinks the congressional Republicans will be able to win over more voters ahead of the midterms.
Of course, it's not all about winning new voters; you also need to motivate the old voters to show up. Davidiuk says that's where the investigations come into play. He says, "We have these high-profile inquiries into President Biden's capacity during his presidency, the Russia probe; we're looking into Epstein's network."
He says those investigations will all play a key role in delivering the accountability that the GOP base has been demanding for years.
