United Tech Outage Grounds Flights, Causing Headaches in Houston

United Airlines flights are moving again this morning after a major tech outage grounded jets at airports across the country Wednesday evening. The glitch hit around 5:15 p.m. central and affected United’s ability to calculate weight, balance, and track flight times, halting departures at Houston’s Bush airport, as well as Newark, Chicago O’Hare, and Denver.

The airline says the issue was resolved by 10 p.m., but delays stretched into the night and this morning.

United said the outage was not linked to a cybersecurity breach. Flights already in the air continued as scheduled, and regional operations were not impacted. The airline is warning travelers to expect lingering delays today as crews work to fully return to normal.
