The Houston police department reports two of its own are on the mend after a call turned into a fiery hit-and-run crash.

The episode started with a call for a stabbing, according to HPD.

“It happened really fast,” explained HPD’s Lt. Ali, who said the police “were going north on Homestead. We believe the suspect vehicle came out of a parking lot or a side street.”

The vehicles smashed into each other. Then police say the driver of the other vehicle took off.

After the collision, the patrol vehicle caught fire.Fortunately, a passing tow truck driver stopped and helped the cops get out. They were both taken to the hospital with injuries described as minor.

The HPD’s vehicle crime division is investigating the crash. Investigators say they do have information on the hit-and-run driver of the other vehicle.
