Houston Mayor John Whitmire continues to see pushback from the far left. He's now being blasted by the Chron and members of the Democratic Party. They're saying that his agenda is that of a "MAGA mayor."
Many of these attacks come after Whitmire attended an event with Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw, who represents the second congressional district and has himself faced pushback from Republicans.
Whitmire says that is simply an example of his desire to reach across the aisle for the sake of the city. He told KTRH, "Anyone that wants to help me fix Houston, I will work with them. It would be irresponsible for me to not work with our congressional delegation."
That bipartisanship doesn't seem to be something every Democrat is interested in, though. Thirty different precinct and Congressional District chairs inside the Harris County Democratic Party all signed a resolution on Tuesday that read in part, "John Whitmire’s agenda is indistinguishable from that of a MAGA mayor."
In response to that, Whitmire told KTRH that he simply wants the city to be safe and functional. He said, "I want more police officers, I want our streets and drainage to be fixed. I came from the State Legislature at the request of Houstonians to fix Houston."
He added that despite what his critics may say about him, he's not backing down. He said, "Nobody is working harder than me, trying to bring people together, to find the revenue, cut out waste and duplication, and cut out the corruption."
