Texas Leads the Nation in Job Creation

Texas is leading the nation in job growth, according to new federal government data, and Governor Greg Abbott calls the state "a jobs engine."

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics report on January employment, released on Monday, says Texas added the greatest number of non-farm jobs in the nation in the first 31 days of 2025, at 27,900.

The report also shows the state added the most non-farm jobs during all of 2024, measured January-to-January.

The number of Lone Star State jobs created last year was 187,700, according to the government figures.

“Texas is America’s jobs engine, adding more new jobs in the last year than any other state,” Governor Abbott said in a statement about the data.

But the Governor said the state needs to continue attracting a diverse number of jobs, "That's why I launched the Governor's Small Business Freedom Council in December and declared career training an emergency item this legislative session.

"Texas continues to remove regulatory red tape and invest in education, innovation, and infrastructure as we build a stronger, more prosperous Texas than ever before.”

Last week, Gov. Abbott said Texas beat all previous records for total number of jobs, the number of people working and the size of the labor force.

The Texas civilian workforce is made up of about 16 million people, out of a total population of 32 million, of whom about 15 million are working at any one time, according to the Labor Statistics Bureau.

Those numbers exclude military and farm jobs as well as a few of other professions that are not usually included in general federal labor statistics.
