Texas Legislature Day 2: The Real Republicans Respond

After a disappointing debut, in which 'Democrat' Dustin Burrows was elected as House Speaker thanks to the progressive left, many Texas House Republicans responded today to express their disappointment.

State Rep. Briscoe Cain posted on X: "I and a majority of my Republican colleagues voted for David Cook. Yesterday, the Democrat caucus prevailed and the Republican cacus failed."

The Texas House Republican Caucus issued a release congratulating Burrows on the victory, vowing to help him advance the conservative agenda.

And then there was a statement by Republican runner-up David Cook:

"I want to take this opportunity to express my sincerest and deepest gratitude to everyone who supported my candidacy for Speaker of the Texas House. Your belief, dedication, and unwavering support have touched me in ways that words cannot fully convey.

Together, We sparked an impotant and long-overdie dinversation about the need for reform within this

body, and for that. I am truly appreciative. While the outcome may not have been what I hoped for, I remain humbled to still have the privilege to work alongside my House colleagues to advance meaningful policy changes for the betterment of all Texans."

House Republicans have already begun the process of looking into censuring fellow members who voted for Burrows.

The Texas House will reconvene tomorrow morning to debate a housekeeping resolution, with a House rules debate set for next Wednesday.

The Texas Senate has recessed until Wednesday, primarily for Trump's inauguration.
