There's been talk for years among environmentalists about banning the use of natural gas in home and business appliances such as stoves and water heaters, but now there are reports that President-Elect Donald Trump is considering a presidential order to preserve the right to heat and cook with gas.
Some sources have said this week that Mr. Trump intends the natural gas order to be among the first he signs when taking office.
In states such as Texas or California, where electricity is increasingly expensive and under-produced, switching from gas to electricity makes little sense.
And Trump says Joe Biden is among those who seriously want to severely limit the use of gas.
"This guy loves electric -- and we don't have enough electricity and then we have AI and we need more and he wants everybody to have an electric heater instead of a gas heater!"
"A gas heater is much less expensive, the heat is much better -- as the expression goes, you don't itch.
"Does anybody," Trump asked in a speech, "have a heater where you go and you itch and scratch -- well, that's what they want you to have, they don't want you to have gas where you don't have the problems of the electric."
There have been recent reports attempting to tie home gas appliances with respiratory problems like asthma, but critics say there needs to be a balance with the fact that gas is used to produce electricity, so switching from gas appliances to electric just moves around the energy source from one place to another.
Details of the Presidential Order in question are still in the discussion stages, reports say,
But one point of Trump's argument for gas is indisputable: "The source is plentiful."
No place has natural gas like Texas! And plenty of it.
Gas appliances are "much cheaper to operate, they're much better, they look much better, they work much better.
"Sixty-percent of homes and apartments have gas heaters."
