Katy police have announced the arrest of two people in the shooting Monday afternoon at Katy Mills Mall.
Aaron Noe Chavez, 18, of Katy, and a juvenile, whose identity is not being released, are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They are being held at the Fort Bend County Jail and Juvenile Detention Center, respectively.
Holiday shoppers at Katy Mills mall were running for the exits Monday evening after gunfire erupted inside the Mall. Harris County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 5:17 p.m. Authorities later confirmed there was no active shooter.
Katy Interim Police Chief Bryon Woytek said two young males entered the mall through Bass Pro Shops and fired several shots in the common area before running away from the scene. It's not known if the shooting was intended to target anyone or simply to create chaos. No people were injured.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, but the suspects, described as white or Hispanic males and appearing to be young adults, have not yet been identified. Three entrances to the mall were closed off as police investigated, though the rest of the mall remained open for business.
