Texas Could Soon Be A Nuclear Energy Powerhouse

The PUC has released a report detailing ways to kick-start nuclear energy production. This means that nuclear energy could soon become a bigger part of the Texas energy economy. This would be a major step towards meeting our growing energy needs.

David Holt with the Consumer Energy Alliance told KTRH, "Texas is going to have a doubling, if not more than a doubling, of our energy needs within the next four to seven years. So we need to get ahead of that."

Holt pointed to newer industries like AI, as well as new manufacturing developments, as some of the causes for Texas's growing energy needs. He thinks more clean, reliable nuclear energy will help those industries grow. He said, "Texas becomes even more attractive because affordable and reliable energy is really going to be an important factor in economic growth for years and years to come."

The PUC's 78-page report includes a number of recommendations for the state to take in order to boost the growth of the nuclear power industry, including establishing low-interest loan programs and working with colleges and universities to funnel students towards the nuclear industry.

We might not even have to wait that long to see major developments. Depending on what happens during the spring legislative session, we could very well see permitting or even construction activity within the next two years.
