At least five people are injured following a flash explosion near a shipping terminal in Galveston.
The explosion was reported Thursday afternoon in the 4800 block of Harborside Drive near the Texas International Terminals.
According to Galveston County Judge Mark Henry, welders were working on equipment at the terminal when it sparked, resulting in a small explosion. Three were taken to the hospital for burns and two others are having issues hearing. According to the fire chief, one person had burns to 50% of their body and another person had burns to 15% of their body. The extent of the injuries for the third burn victim is unknown.
The Galveston police and fire departments and Port of Galveston police all responded.
