Proposal: The Federal Government To Pay Texas For Educating Illegal Aliens

Texas lawmakers continue to file bills ahead of next year's legislative session, and one of the proposals would require the federal government to pay Texas, for the cost of educating illegal aliens.

It's House Bill 371, filed by state representative, Ben Bumgarner.

"The legislation would essentially require that the federal government reimburse Texas for educating illegal alien children in our K-12 schools" said Sydnie Henry, managing editor at Texas Scorecard.

If you're old enough, you might remember that in 1972, the Texas legislature tried to exclude illegal aliens from enrolling in public schools. But in no surprise, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1982 that it violated the 14th Amendment.

This time around however, because of the millions of illegals that were purposely let in by the Biden-Harris administration, it's a whole new ball game.

"We have kids coming from more than 105 different countries across the globe" Henry told KTRH, "And they want to be educated in our schools, and that requires a whole different language set that not every school is equipped to provide."
As for whether or not the legislation will pass in 2025?

"That's kind of hard to tell" noted Henry, "I would suspect that citizens and many Republicans in Texas would hope that as we have a Republican majority in the House and Senate, this bill should fly through. However, we've seen in the past that is not necessarily the case."

And even if it does pass, getting money from Washington is a whole other issue, and probably not likely.
