Will The Astrodome Finally Be Given New Life?

After sitting vacant since 2009, there is a new plan to revitalize Houston's iconic Astrodome. It's expected to cost around a billion dollars. With a price tag like that, is there any chance this plan actually goes through?

Jared Woodfill, former chairman of the Harris County Republican Party, is skeptical. He told KTRH, "Is it gonna be funded through private funds, or through taxpayer dollars? And if it's gonna be funded through taxpayer dollars, I don't think the people of this city are going to support it."

Woodfill also warned that, given the age and questions about the viability of the structure, securing private investors isn't going to be a cakewalk either. He said, "Over the past 15-20 years, we've seen multiple proposals, and none of them have been acceptable to the taxpayers or private equity."

Whatever the final decision is on the Astrodome, it will have to be made soon. Next year will mark the 60th anniversary of the dome, and if something isn't done soon, it will have to be demolished.
