President-elect Donald Trump's landslide victory last Tuesday has been interpreted as a mandate from the American people to secure the U.S. border. To that end, Trump has appointed former acting ICE director Tom Homan as his "Border Czar."
Trump made the announcement on Sunday night, saying on his platform Truth Social that, "I am pleased to announce that the former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders ('The Border Czar'), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security."
Homan made headlines during the previous Trump administration, where he became known for sparring with Democratic members of Congress when it came to issues of border security.
Homan spoke to Fox News about his new appointment, saying, "I'm honored the President asked me to come back and help solve this national security crisis, and I'm looking forward to it."
Homan says he's already working on plans to begin mass deportations. He said, "I've been clear, and President Trump has been clear, public safety threats and national security threats will be the priority, because they have to be."
