Fracking is essential to the U.S. and the country couldn't sustain itself without it.
Now that former president Donald Trump is going to be president again, it appears the nation is heading back towards a major focus of energy independence. He's repeatedly say the country will unleash it's energy potential by fracking and drilling.
Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, who flip-flopped her views on fracking, in a landslide victory called this week to take back the White House. The two stood on very opposite ends of this issue with not always a clear answer from VP Harris on her fracking stance.
American Petroleum Institute CEO Mike Sommers said the demand for oil and natural gas is only going up and the U.S. should take advantage of that.
"If you cant produce it here in the United States than they're going to be producing it somewhere else in the world," Sommers said.
S&P Global estimates that more than 70% of the country's oil and more than 80% of its natural gas are produced through fracking.
Many energy experts predict that a fracking ban would catastrophic for the U.S. and its allies. But, Sommers said a Trump administration will be one that supports American oil and gas and result in prosperity.
"We need a stable regulatory environment and we need the international markets," said Sommers. "American drillers and oil and gas producers are up to the challenge if we get those things right."
