Even though Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson has said no to any federal election monitors being allowed here in Houston, her office did confirm to KTRH that 'state' election observers will be on hand, with all eyes on what happens in Harris County.
"I think the more eyes on the polls the better" said Harris County GOP Chair, Cindy Siegel, "Especially in light of what we saw two years ago."
Who can ever forget that. An audit found multiple issues and violations here in Harris County, prompting Texas lawmakers to take action in an attempt to restore elections to how they used to be, and provide true 'election integrity'.
"In 2022, they ran out of paper at several of the polls, machines didn't start and there was inadequate staffing" Siegel told KTRH, "And actually 2020 was the same way, that it was poorly run."
With a new record of almost 19 million people now registered to vote in Texas, with many here in the largest county, there is confidence and hope that things will run better this time. We shall see.
"I'm glad we have the Secretary of State observers there" noted Siegel, "There's a lot of poll watchers that are out and the more eyes, the more likely that we are to ensure that we have a fair and secure election."
Don't forget, the polls are open until 7pm. And for full coverage, make sure you stay tuned to News Radio 740 KTRH, and KTRH.com
