More Election Issues In Harris County, Lawsuit Filed Against H.C. Registrar

With just over 2 weeks to go until the election, local attorney Jared Woodfill has filed a lawsuit against the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar, Ann Bennett.

At issue, it the state law requiring the registrar to maintain the integrity of the voter roll, every single month. That has not happened.

"The Texas election code makes it very clear that the voter registrar, in this case Ann Bennett, is supposed to be taking the voter registration list and bouncing it up against the national change of address list every single month" said Woodfill, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of congressional candidate Caroline Kane, and state senate candidate Joe Trahan.

It turns out that thousands of voters who have left Harris County, are still having votes cast in their names. And they had no idea that it was happening.

"What we've uncovered and discovered is that the voter registrar in Harris County has not been following the Texas election code" Woodfill told KTRH, "And that's a huge problem. If your voter roll is compromised, then there are opportunities for fraud, and inefficiencies to occur."

The voter roll is supposed to be updated and checked every single month, but under deposition, two people involved say it's not happening.

"We've got a county voter roll that clearly is inaccurate" noted Woodfill, "That's why it's so important that the registrar here in Harris County start following the law."

This is a developing story.
