The one and only debate between incumbent Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz and his Democrat challenger, Congressman Colin Allred, takes place in Dallas on Tuesday. The latest polling has Cruz leading Allred, but many of those polls are too close for the Republican's comfort.
"My sense is that this is a three point race in Cruz' favor at this point," said SMU political scientist Cal Jillson.
Cruz, at one point, had a nine point lead in polling earlier this year.
"Closing the gap from nine to three points is one thing. But getting it to zero is a completely different deal," Jillson told KTRH.
The latest polling from the Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston has Cruz leading Allred by four points.
